 Indian Classical Dances

Dances are a form of lucid expression of human beings. Like the Indian culture, Indian  classical dances are equally diverse in nature. There are numerous classical dance forms in India: Bharat Natyam, Kuchipudi.Mohini Attam.Kathakali,Odissi,Manipuri, Kathak.  Each form will have its own specialty  and grace, along with a set pattern of costumes and make-up.

kathakali is a traditional story play dance of Kerala which has had its origin from the temples. It marks the culmination of the evolution of various ritualistic, religious, folk and classical and dance drama traditions of Kerala and incorporates many dance forms of this region.
Kuchipudi, the dance-drama from Andhra Pradesh, is sed on  themes from the epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Kathak is the major classical dance form of northern India. The word kathak means "to tell a story". It is derived from the dance dramas of ancient India.


Manipuri, the lyrical style of dance,comes from the eastern State of Manipur. It describes the games of  Krishna .

Bharata Natyam, originating in Tamil Nadu, has movements of pure rhythm, rendering a  story dramatically in different moods.It is believed to be india's oldest form of classical dance.
Odissi, which originated in Orissa , is the highly inspired, impassioned, ecstatic and sensuous form of dance. It is performed in the temples of Orissa as a religious rite.
